Counter Terrorism exercise - Oct 15, CSUN campus was created by Fred Ginsburg

Do you see yourself as a real life Jack Bauer, elite counter terrorist sleauth? Or the next Tom Clancey, writer? Or maybe you harbor some interest in eventually working as an Intelligence Analyst for one of our myriad of government agencies?

If so, then the following announcement should be of interest to you. Here at CSUN, there actually is a group of faculty members who are provided grant money to promote careers in the agencies, as well as to educate the public about what theses agencies actually do. Of course, since CSUN is so liberal minded, anything having to do with the (gasp) defense of freedom is frowned upon. So these great opportunities to learn are, themselves, kept secret -- lest they be attacked by the proponents of free speech who only believe in free speech that agrees with their own political leanings.

Anyway, here is the announcement from Professor Robert Lopez of the English Dept.

Fred,

Attached is an announcement for the next crisis simulation here at CSUN. All are welcome if you let us know you are coming beforehand. Consider coming!

Best,
ROL

CADINS
National Security Crisis Simulation
October 15, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: The Student CADINS (Coalition for Analysis of Defense, Intelligence & National Security) at California State University Northridge, will conduct its third simulation on October 15, 2011, from approximately 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

This event is open and free to all who pre-register. “Participants” who attend will assume the role of intelligence analysts in a fictional JRIT, or joint regional intelligence team, and will be tasked to advise a White House deputy in two phases:

(1) Take a small piece of information from a security alert and do detective work to figure out how serious the threat is to the financial and physical security of the United States. Targeted searches of documents from various intelligence sources both national and local will play a key role in testing the participants’ ability to “solve” the mystery with critical, creative, and quick thinking. Participants will also get a chance to do a “briefing” and test their public speaking under pressure.
(2) Brainstorm an action plan. Once the JRIT has established the potential threat to the United States, participants will be asked to use their creativity to imagine possible actions in order to neutralize the threat.

Students who have interest in criminal justice, forensics, intelligence, military science, public relations, or crisis management, will all find this exercise useful.

The organizers of CADINS also need some people to act as “operators” for the crisis simulation. Operators will play the role of key intelligence organization representatives to make the simulation feel as real as possible.

If you would like to be a participant or operator, please send the following to Robert Oscar Lopez at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.:

--Your name and affiliation (if any)
--Your phone number
--Address to which your certificate of completion may be sent
--Whether you would like to be a participant or operator
--If you would like CADINS to confirm your attendance for credit in a course

The simulation will begin at 9:30 AM in Jerome Richfield Hall 319, on the campus of California State Northridge. See you there.

EVENT POSTPONED

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in the national security simulation.
Unfortunately we have to postpone it until the spring of 2012, because key parties were called away and could not partner with the simulation on the date of 10/15. I apologize and hope you will still be interested when we set a new date in March 2012.

Sincerely,
ROL
