Plural Eyes editing software was created by Fred Ginsburg

The lousy thing about getting olde is that everything you think you know has changed!

For as long as I can remember teaching it, dealing with multiple cameras with random start/stops; double-system audio; and music videos meant using timecode & clapsticks to sort everything out in post. It was not for the faint of heart, nor the beginning student.

Now, along comes software like Plural Eyes and Dual Eyes, from www.singularsoftware.com. (around $150)

These programs use the waveform of the audio track the way we have traditionally utilized timecode. By comparing and matching the audio scratch track on the video clips (camcorder mic?) with the audio of the master clip, it is able to sync up the elements of your timeline.

Plural Eyes is intended to interface specifically with: Final Cut, Media Composer, or Premiere. Dual Eyes works generically with just the AVI or .mov video clips, and creates new clips with everything in the right places for easy importing into any NLE.

Go to their website and check it out. Pretty amazing stuff. And used by a lot of professionals; I heard about it from some Avid editors. They even offer a free 30 day download trial.

I've been doing sound for my friend who's using a DSLR. We've actually found that the on board mic is good to use as a slate so all we have to do is say it and get someone to clap. Pluralize might help even help get rid of that process completely.

Is there any way I can try it before I buy it?

You need to ask Singular Software themselves if they offer a trial period. You should also ask them about a student discount, if they offer one.

You do realize that in the time it took you to ask ME about Plural Eyes, you could have just googled over to their website and read all about the product.
