This one-day filmmaking class is designed for the digital filmmaker who wants to improve the sound of their film, television show, or webseries. Nothing screams “amateur” like an improperly recorded, edited and mixed soundtrack.

Leading us on this sonic journey are two of Los Angeles’ most valuable sound resources: professor and world renowned production sound mixer, Fred Ginsburg, CAS, Ph.D. and author and award winning rerecording mixer, Woody Woodhall CAS. Utilizing their 40 years of combined sound expertise they will deliver a packed seminar with how–to, practical information to ensure your project will sound as great as it looks.

The schedule for the day includes two 60-minutes morning sessions with a Q & A, a lunch break and two 60-minute afternoon sessions with a Q&A at the end.

FRED GINSBURG – Production Audio     

Dr. Fred Ginsburg, CAS Ph.D. MBKS is a highly experienced Production Sound Mixer with over two decades experience in professional filmmaking and video. He has recorded production dialogue on feature motion pictures, episodic television, TV commercials, reality, documentary, corporate, government, and music videos.

Fred is a member of the Cinema Audio Society (former Executive Board Member); the British Kinematograph Sound & Television Society (Council Member/London; and North American Branch); served as the Industry Liaison of the University Film and Video Association; and an instructor for the Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association. Fred has also been an instructor for the Video Producers Group of the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Training. Dr. Ginsburg was also a founder and co-Executive Director of the National Association of Forensic Video.

He is a consultant with K-Tek and Tascam as well as a consultant and instructor for Audio Technica, a major manufacturer of professional microphones, and has taught on their behalf at recent NAB Conventions.

Fred has written and published more than 95 articles on production techniques in various trade magazines, authored the "Guide to the Nagra 4.2 Sync Recorder and Production Sound Recording", as well as the online coursebook, “The Craft of Production Sound” being used at major universities. He is an adjunct professor at California State University Northridge, and travels regularly around the United States conducting professional seminars on sound for film and video.

WOODY WOODHALL – Post Audio

Woody Woodhall, CAS is President of Allied Post Audio in Santa Monica, CA and is an award winning supervising sound editor, sound designer and re-recording mixer. He is a member of the Cinema Audio Society, SPARS and the Motion Pictures Editors Guild.

With over 20 years in the industry, Woody heads the Los Angeles Post Production Group where he shares his expertise along with other professionals on a monthly basis with the post production community. He has also authored a comprehensive textbook, "Audio Production and Post Production", currently used at universities across the country.

When he gives his ears a rest, he enjoys being a filmmaker for independent feature films, documentaries, television programming, and multimedia.
