News

Welcome to our archived site.

As you may (or may not know), Fred Ginsburg CAS retired from the sound biz (including teaching) in 2021. So we haven't added many new articles about audio. However, a lot of material about the basics of production sound recording is still relevant, even though the makes and models of some of the equipment has changed over the years.

Because of the new trend of copyright trolling in order to extort fees,  we have chosen to delete many of the generic illustrations (clip art, stock shots, general industry news) just to be safe. In years past, none of that would have been a problem, especially since this is a non-commercial educational resource. But it wasn't worth taking the risk.

FilmTVsound is now FREE to subscribe

We are excited to announce that access to FilmTVsound.com is now FREE to everyone!

Over the years,  this website has served as an informative resource and online coursebook for numerous audio classes taught at universities and colleges worldwide.

Because we have never accepted paid advertising, in order to remain editorially unbiased, there used to be a minimal subscription fee to cover hosting/domain fees and a few negotiated copyright permissions. But we are retired these days. And those paid copyrights that we had to pay for are no longer being enforced.

Even though most of the articles are dated in terms of some specific mentions of make/models -- the production sound recording techniques are still viable. We considered just shutting the entire website down, but too many of the folks we talked with insisted that the information provided here was too valuable to just disappear.
